When I first read The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, I was struck by how similar it is to be a Sound Engineer's Wife. Though, of course, I do know when my Sound Engineer will arrive and depart (unlike the TT's Wife) and he doesn't arrive in places naked (not when he's sober anyway).
There is an anachronistic feeling about the whole thing too. While I stay at home and act as the constant, he is flying all over the world (a mild form of time travel) being dropped into foreign lands and experiences, before returning home.
And I think it helps us to be more present when we are together, and when we're not. An appreciation of the Time we do spend together, and making the Time we don't spend together positive also.
